Thank You, Thank You Very Much

I found out on Friday that my only overseas reader, Heavenly Housewife, (from Staffordshire, England, a name which Drew and I take turns mispronouncing) has passed along the Meme Award to me. I have to confess that I am an Internet idiot. My favorite Heights blogger, Kelley from Home in the Heights, passed along the Absolutely Fabulous award a little while back, and I let it die. Right here on my blog. If you’re wondering, I’m still muddling through the 400 years of bad luck I got from breaking chain letters as a kid. But, Kelley and Heavenly Housewife, thank you so much! I’m joyful joyful that both of you stop by my site, and that I have neither of your phone numbers, which means you’re not stopping by because I called and told you to.

The Meme Award that Heavenly Housewife passed along had rules; specifically, for me to list seven of my personality traits. The other bloggers I mention should then be good Internet patrons and list seven of their personality traits. I doubt these seven insights to the traits of my multiple personalities will come as a surprise to any of you, but who knows! Maybe after this you’ll really start crossing the street when you see me coming down the sidewalk.
1.) Honest. This trait is a surprising switcheroo from when I was young. As a little girl, I had my heart set on becoming the world’s foremost con-woman, so I lied about everything. Not just the big things that would lead to punishment, but also the little things, the extra-obvious things, the things that the entire town saw me do, just to keep things interesting around our house. The only problem with my future career plans was I was terrible at lying. The moment any authority figure so much as cocked one suspicious eyebrow in my direction, I crumbled under the pressure. I cried and confessed immediately. They never even had to threaten waterboarding. As an adult, this trait is the most important one to me. It’s why I’m willing to stick my neck out and tell the entire Internet that some of the meals I cook suck and I got laid off and I’d rather stack up one million empty toilet paper rolls than ever change the one on the wall. If you feel an inkling of any of that, you can be sure you’re not alone.
2) Self-Deprecating. This trait originated in middle school, when I was at my most hideous. I found that if I made fun of myself before anyone else did, it wasn’t as fun for everyone else. What’s the use in cackling about how frizzy my hair is when I just said, “I know what you’re thinking. There are no illegal immigrants stashed in my hair.”
3.) Immature. Being married has only made this part of me worse, mostly because Drew is as immature as I am, and our time together often turns into a contest of who can be the most ridiculous. I usually win.
4.) Stubborn. Our wood floors are ruined from all the times I’ve dug in my heels…
5.) Friendly. It still hurts my feelings when other people aren’t.
6.) Impulsive. I wish so many of my stories didn’t end with the phrase, “It seemed like a good idea…”
7.) Energetic. My family calls me a hurricane and Drew says life with me is “like a carnival ride, and sometimes I throw up.” I think they all mean that in the loveliest possible way.
Now for some of my favorite bloggers. Check them out if you haven’t already!
1) Carrie at A Peace of Presley. Did you know Carrie was my first friend in college? She was always in front of me in line during rush, and in the end, we both rushed the same house, and she was friends with me, even though I fainted at the first house I went to on the first day of rush. Maybe she was only friends with me because she didn’t know it was me that fainted. Maybe she didn’t know it was me because when she turned to me in line and said, “Hey! Did you hear someone fainted?” I replied, “I heard! That girl is a loser!” Aside from being my first college friend, Carrie takes absolutely beautiful photos and has a brand new baby boy. I aspire to one day take photos like hers, and maybe one day have a brand new baby boy. I’m still debating on the last part.
2.) Annie at RoseKnits. Annie actually hails from Bartlesville, my own beloved corner of Oklahoma. I rediscovered her on Ravelry, and discovered her amazing knitting and sewing. She recently got a yarn shop in Tulsa to pick up her line of knitting bags. Bartlesville isn’t just about oil, my friends.
3.) A Mingled Yarn. I don’t know her personally, but I’m not afraid to stalk her site. I’m currently trying to copy some summer skirts she sewed, and she also sews and knits for her precious little girl, The Bee.
4.) Allyson at The Life of Al. She’s actually great friends with my favorite sister-in-law Emily, AND even though she’s from Kansas, she has fond Bartlesville memories too, which makes her awesome.
5.) Kelly at Nick and Kelly in Borger. Kelly was also my sorority sister at OU, and now has a precious baby girl. Her blog and Carrie’s blog are the ones I visit after a trip to the 11th street Kroger makes me want to call my mom and tell her the only grandchildren she’s getting from me are the four-legged kind. Their brand of motherhood looks much less Dr. Pepper in a sippycup and much more sweet-smelling baby in cloth diapers.
6.) Courtney at Inside the Loop. I don’t know Courtney, but I love her blog! She just moved from Houston to Malaysia, and although I think that sounds terrifying, she makes it seem…not so terrifying. I love her sense of style.
7.) Jessica at What I Wore. Speaking of style, Jessica’s is amazing. She has a fantastic way of putting outfits together, which she does every day, and then takes a picture of herself. She has inspired me to start shopping for some vintage clothes I can re-purpose. She makes it look easy, but I have a feeling it’s really not. I also don’t know Jessica, but I’m sure there are a lot of people on the internet who want to dress like Jessica, but also don’t know her. She’s used to stalkers!

Congrats on your award T! Your blog always brightens my day, even if it’s sometimes at the expense of your misfortune, it makes me laugh….you said it not me, refer to #2. So, shall I rattle my brain on the traits, here on your territory or over at my place?

Oh my gosh- #2 and #7 made me laugh out loud, and I’m with you on #5.
Congrats on the award! You are completely awesome. You give me the giggles on a regular basis. I love your dog. I might have to become your first unofficial stalker! (But not really because that would be weird and all – especially considering that we might occasionally go to the same grocery store – and hey, I where did you get those shoes you were wearing yesterda … uh… nevermind)
